New Audio System for St Aloysius Chapel
Venue: St Aloysius College - Sydney
All AV have recently installed a new audio system in the chapel of St Aloysius College in Sydney. With design assistance from Audio Telex, the system was based around Renkus-Heinz Iconyx speakers.
The installation includes 4 x Renkus-Heinz ICX-7's (line array column with 7 co-axial drivers), two located at the front of the chapel and two more covering the balcony. The under balcony seating area is serviced by 2 x Renkus-Heinz SGX41's. The SGX41 is a very compact speaker cabinet featuring a single 4" co-axial driver. It uses the same driver as found in Iconyx ensuring consistent voicing throughout the chapel. The system is augmented with a Renkus-Heinz PNX-112 Sub, a single 12" subwoofer. All speakers are powered by Australian Monitor IS series power amplifiers and processed with a Peavey Architectural Acoustics Digitool (8x8 DSP).
The school asked for an alternative to the normally obtrusive gooseneck mic so a Beyerdynamic Revoluto was recommended. The Revoluto is a compact desk-top microphone consisting of 17 mic capsules which create a corridor pick-up pattern, ensuring consistent voice reproduction irrespective of whether the speaker (the one doing the talking) is tall, short, close to the mic or standing back. The unique corridor pattern also allowed the microphone to work perfectly (with plenty of gain before feedback) despite the main loudspeakers being located just behind and off to the side of the mic.
The installation also includes a Mipro ACT707SE Wireless Microphone system.
In addition to the greatly improved speech intelligibility across the entire listening area (thanks to Iconyx), the PNX-112 Sub is being used to extend the low end response and enhance the playback experience for the new AV system as well as the live musical performance requirements in the Chapel. The final result gives St Aloysius exactly what they requested - a discrete system that caters for all their audio requirements.
