Burraneer Bay Primary School

Burraneer Bay Primary is situated in Sydney's Sutherland Shire. With 680 students and a brand new federally funded school hall the school sought to showcase the talents of its performing arts students, by installing a user friendly sound and lighting system.

Hills SVL in conjunction with Kookaburra Education Solutions created a system design that could run in two modes: Simple mode and Performance mode.

Two Modes - Ease of Use for All Occasions.

Simple Mode.
The Simple mode is used for the majority of events including classes and assemblies. It provides access to the projector and screen via a wall plate. In addition, there are two plug in microphones and a wireless microphone that can operate in both the hall and COLA. The microphone levels are controlled by a simple wall plate on the stage. Stage lighting can be preset or not used at all. When the system is switched on, it automatically lowers the screens and turns on the projector. In addition, once the system is on, a computer can be plugged into the system to control the volume.

Performance Mode.
Performance mode gives the staff access to all the technical requirements for a complete production, including 12 channels of lighting comprising effects and a mirror ball. At the press of a button all audio can now be sent through a production mixing console.

The school needed access to several extra microphone points, so the mixer was hard wired to all the extra microphone points. This offers the perfect functionality for plays, drama and awards night. There are also 4 microphone inputs above the stage and 8 on the side of the stage.

The school's principal had a special requirement for a number of wireless headset microphones in the school productions. These can be plugged directly into the microphone point next to the stage and will be ready to use at the mixing desk. Additionally, there are 2 monitor speakers on stage for the performers to clearly hear the music and themselves. There are also two main speakers in the Hall and 2 additional speakers for the COLA. The whole space opens up to accommodate 300 attendees.

Completed in February 2009, the school is very impressed. Hills SVL has trained the staff on the system and will assist during the school's first big production. Staff comments include "At the push of a button, the school can decide to have an assembly inside, outside or both and behind the scenes the system makes the changes instantly. It is a fully functioning audiovisual system that not only met budget, but is also easy to use."
