A New PA System in Your School Hall
17 August 2009
What do I need to know before I choose a new PA system for my hall?
- What is the primary function of the installed system? For example, paging, background music and/or foreground music e.g. DJ or band.
- What is the venue’s primary use? e.g. Gym, Performance Centre, Assembly Hall.
- What are the dimensions of the venue (Length x Width x Height)
- What type of coverage is required in each area of the venue?
- What type of system best suits your venue:
- Standard point source speaker system (i.e left and right front of house)
- A portable system
- A distributed speaker system (multiple speakers positioned within a room or venue to provide an even coverage of sound) or
- Ceiling speakers
- Where is the best place to mount the speakers? (from walls, ceiling, cross beams)
- Do some areas need better quality audio than others?
- What frequency response is required?
A limited frequency response is required for speech only events such as assemblies, where are a full range frequency response would be needed for music or performances. - How many zones are there and is complicated “matrixing” of multiple inputs to multiple outputs needed?
- What are the characteristics of the site of the installation? For example, background noise (ambient noise level), residential noise restrictions, aesthetics, ceiling heights, reverberant field due to presence of polished timber and glass, coverage.
- What is your budget?
